Roller Blinds

The workhorse of every Fourways new build — blockout, sunscreen, and the double-roller combo that gives a bedroom both.

A roller blind is a fabric panel on an aluminium tube — spring, chain or motor driven — made to measure for each window. It’s the product we fit more of than any other across the estate belt, because it suits the big, plain, aluminium-framed glazing that comes standard in almost every new Fourways build.

Blockout

Total light stop, for bedrooms, nurseries, media rooms and anyone on shift work. Beyond the darkness, a blockout roller adds a genuine insulating layer against summer heat and winter cold — worth factoring in on west-facing rooms that bake by late afternoon.

Sunscreen

An open-weave mesh fabric, typically rated at 3%, 5% or 10% openness, that cuts glare and UV while keeping the view through your sliding doors. The lower the percentage, the more heat and glare it blocks and the less view it keeps — 3–5% is the usual sweet spot for view-preserving sun control on a big glazed living area.

Worth knowing before you choose it for a bedroom: sunscreen gives daytime privacy but reverses at night — with the lights on inside, you’re visible from outside. Pair it with curtains or a second roller for any room that needs privacy after dark.

Double Roller (Day & Night Combo)

Blockout and sunscreen fabric on one bracket, run independently — the practical answer for a bedroom that still wants the garden view during the day and total darkness at night. It’s the single most-requested spec on bedroom windows across the estate belt.

“It’s rarely one fabric decision — it’s matching the fabric to what actually happens in that room, hour by hour.”

Control & finish

  • ControlChain (fitted with a child-safe tensioner as standard), spring-assist, or motorised — see our motorised blinds & automation page.
  • Cassette / pelmetAn optional valance to hide the tube, with the fascia colour-matched to your frames for a cleaner finish.
  • Wide spansA single blind runs to roughly 3m of fabric width before it needs a central join line — beyond that, we’ll either split the run or motorise linked blinds to cover it cleanly.
  • MountInside (recess) mount for a tailored, minimal look, or outside (face) mount for fuller blockout coverage and to make a window feel larger — talked through at your measure.

Where roller blinds win

Modern open-plan homes, apartments and any wall of glass — easy to clean, wide fabric choice from entry to premium, and the cleanest possible line against an aluminium frame. They suit almost every room in a new Fourways build. Where they lose ground is a very wide unbroken span, where a join line becomes visible, or a heritage cottage look, where a timber venetian usually reads better.
